Hoisin steak stir-fry
Healthy and quick on the table
Earlier, we made stir-fried steak bites with broccoli in soy sauce.
And because we love wok dishes ourselves, often healthy and quick to make, a variation was bound to happen. This time, we’re going for a great combination of thin beef (steak) strips with hoisin sauce. The typical Asian flavor of hoisin is rich, slightly sweet, and a little savory, and really unlike other sauces. It gives the dish that so-called ‘umami’ flavor and can’t really be replaced.
The perfect marinade
To make the beef extra tender and flavorful, we marinate it in a mix of oyster sauce and soy sauce. This not only adds great flavor but also helps keep the meat tender while cooking. You can let the marinade sit briefly, but if you have the time, let it rest longer for a deeper flavor. Want to switch things up? Use steak tips instead of sliced beef, or go with chicken thighs.
Vegetables of your choice
In this recipe, we combine the beef with crisp vegetables like mushrooms and red bell pepper. But the great thing about stir-fry dishes is that you can easily mix and match your vegetables. Broccoli, bok choy, sugar snap peas, or even zucchini all work well here. Want a bit of heat? Add some sliced red chili. Prefer extra crunch? Sprinkle some roasted cashews or sesame seeds over the dish.
Serve with rice or noodles
A good stir-fry dish isn’t complete without a proper base. Serve the beef with white rice for a classic option, or go with noodles if you’re in the mood for something more filling. Brown rice or even cauliflower rice can also be a good choice if you want to keep things a bit lighter. Finish with some sliced green onions for a fresh touch. Enjoy!
